Quarterback Jim McMahon threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns, and running back Vai Sikahema rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns. The Cougars won the game 46-45, and it became known as the "Miracle Bowl."

The 1984 National Championship

In 1984, the Cougars went undefeated and won the national championship. They were led by quarterback Robbie Bosco, running back Vai Sikahema, and wide receiver Glen Kozlowski. The Cougars beat the Michigan Wolverines in the Holiday Bowl, 24-17, to win the championship.
