Billie Jean King was born on November 22, 1943, in Long Beach, California. She began playing tennis at the age of 11 and quickly rose to prominence in the sport. In 1961, she won the Wimbledon junior singles title, and in 1966, she won her first Grand Slam title at the French Open.

Over the course of her career, King won a total of 39 Grand Slam titles, including 12 singles titles, 16 women's doubles titles, and 11 mixed doubles titles. She is considered one of the greatest female tennis players of all time.

Social Activism

In addition to her success on the court, King has also been a vocal advocate for social justice. In 1973, she founded the Women's Tennis Association (WTA),which helped to establish equal prize money for men and women in tennis. She has also been a strong advocate for Title IX, which prohibits sex discrimination in educational institutions.

King has also been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. In 1981, she came out as gay, and she has since been a strong advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. She has served on the board of directors of the Human Rights Campaign, and she has been a vocal critic of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
